Ready For This? Again, State Theatre, Sydney, 28th February 2010 by Foilly

A long day, but well worth it. Seeing Tim the night before I was already tired when I got up and realised I had to travel to Sydney as well. Although the excitement kept me going. Last year when I saw Tim at the State, I travelled from Newcastle to Sydney by
train.

But what we didn't realise was that we wouldn't be getting back home until 5am so this time, I was going by myself, and had to work the following day so I knew I couldn't be getting back that late so I drove to Hornsby then caught a train into Sydney where I would be met by Hannah (Badhairday).

Going was a last minute decision. I couldn't get tickets so I was annoyed that I wouldn't be going so I had been on the lookout for tickets. I got offered one off a really lovely lady whose brother couldn't make it and had offered me a seat with her and her parents. So I had to go by myself so I wasn't sure if I should go, but after a debate over facebook I decided to go. (I am very glad I did). The seats were in the Mezzanine nearly up the back, so not the best seats, but still got to see Tim so I was excited anyway.

Hannah collected me at the station and we arrived at the State just after 7pm

I had to wait and meet the women selling me the ticket. I got it off her at ten to eight.

I was still waiting with Hannah for her friend to turn up. Two of her friends turned up but one of them couldn't make it so Hannah offered to let me sit next to her during the show. I jumped at it because she had row b down the front.

So I went from upstairs near the back to downstairs up the front :D :D :D (I love Hannah :P)

The lights went down for the beginning of Ready For This for a final time. Went of brilliantly and this time I wasn't actually blinded by lights. The State theatre is beautiful and had a beautiful effect.
The audience was much better than in Newcastle, there weren't any hecklers and the show just seemed to flow a lot better.

He went along saying hi to the front row and started talking to an 18 year old.
He got his guitar put on by Adie (spelling??) but awkwardly with his arms through the wrong bit so he was walking along the stage awkwardly trying to move the mic stand with his trapped hands.

"The STRAIGHTS of Sydney are you up for a mother fucking sing" ... because Mardi Gras was on that night :P

He put on the boot for "The good Book" saying "Yeah, put it on" in a seductive voice :D

He went back to talking to the 18 year old girl in the front row after the song saying
"So one of these guys your boyfriend" She said yes and pointed to him, Tim then began ripping him off for his Bob Marley shirt
"it's the music it's who I am" In a stoner voice while pretending to smoke.
"So is that what that shirt means or is it just a shirt? It's just a shirt isn't it?" Tim asked
The guys nods in agreement
"I think it's good, I had a Bob Marley shirt, I am mostly mocking myself.. mostly.. you as well."
Then Tim starts asking him questions
"You 18 as well"
Guy nods
"Sweet, had sex"
Guy nods
So then Tim starts mocking him for nodding. "Yup yup, had sex, yup it's as if I just asked him did you get milk, yup yup, got a Bob Marley shirt, yup, yup tick tick it's like a check list.."
"So did you like it?"
Guy nods we all laugh at him to which Tim replies
"Milk I was talking about milk, don't drink too much soy, it gives you man boobs, I should know I drink a lot of soy and I have man boobs, well I don't but I drink a lot of soy."
"So you guys in love? Going to stay together, HA she's nodding and he's just looking at me, yeah this will work out"
"So how old where you when you had sex?"
To which the girl replies "October"
"You were October when you had sex? That's an interesting age, I lost my virginity at May"
"I got married to the girl I lost my virginity to, Sarah is her name and yeah she's good I thoroughly recommend my wife" *thumbs up*

Wiggle was again great :D *wonders if he will ever do the wiggle again*

He was doing the talky bit about thinking of really wicked things to say when it's too late. He was saying how it was called l'esprit d'escalier he goes to the 18 year old "Have you heard of that 18 year old, what your name?"
"Amanda"
So Amanda have you heard of it.
She nods and says yes and he goes
"Really do you know what it means"
"Yeah at the top of the stairs"
"Yeah close, well done."
Then was mocking her going "Wooo wooo" as if to say "woo aren't I just a know it all"

He continued on to tell the rest of the story.
Confession was good, no weird people singing and the audience was really enjoying it. At the end of the third movement there was the usual scattered clapping and cheering, while Tim drank his water and we were sitting quietly when a man up the back somewhere yelled out
"God I love Boobs" Which had everyone laughing and cheering until Tim started singing again.

Tim ran to get the fan for Canvas bags and wobbled and tripped over the cord and wobbled the fan on his way back then at "Blackout" He said "That was a fucking mess FUCK YEAH!"

When Tim came back out after interval there was still people standing up so Amanda was walking back to his seat and he runs over to her and puts his arms on her shoulders and jumps off the stage. He was talking and pointing out peoples clothes when two men from our row ran along the front ducking trying to get back without "disrupting" the show, when of course Tim stopped and started poking fun saying stuff like
"I love how people run like that thinking it doesn't disrupt anything or walking stupid trying to show that they are moving fast. Like when you are walking across the road to show a car you are going faster by walking like an idiot" while imitating walking with his arms waving about.

He told us that this was the last performance of this show... probably, but he wasn't like John Farnham.

The bear was a plant but a different bear to Newcastle. He was talking to him like he was talking to the bear in Newcastle trying to get the joke out but the guy kept answering the question too fast. "Scotty the bear" Was great and after the song Tim was playing with the Keytar while the bear continued to dance a bit on stage until Tim said "Get undressed and fuck off"

If you really loved me was great and the solo during "Islam and bob the fucking builder" Was wicked.. His hands were moving across the piano so fast it was insane, had the whole crowd cheering so loud.

Darkside was great. The stage hand dude ran out again in to shoot smoke at Tim. They pumped out heaps though and Tim was lost in a sea of smoke. The guy put the machine down gave Tim a thumbs up and ran off the stage. Tim started laughing and couldn't keep playing. He then started singing again but stopped and coughed at all the smoke, and started laughing again.

During the pause just before "Daddy never came to my ballgame" A women upstairs yelled out "I love you" He looked up and solemnly nodded at her. Then a guy yelled out "I love you too" to which he shrugged and said "I'm up for that"
Another brilliant solo for Darkside, his fingers must get so sore from all that.

He came back out for the encore and said
"Right, lets put this show to rest" He looked quite sad actually, like he didn't want to finish it.
Some more people started yelling out "I love you" And he goes "Wow this is going to be great"
He looked at the audience as if he was waiting when a women yelled out.
"You're the voice"
Tim then spent the next minute or so trying to work out the tune, once he had it he started singing. We all went *apeshit* and were all cheering and singing along
"Woah oooo ooo ooo ooo"
Then Tim stopped and put his fingers to his head and imitated shooting himself.
"It's not that I don't like it I am just saying I would rather DIE"
"I get people coming up to me saying I could be a proper musician"
He then sang he beginning of "Stairway to heaven" and then started "Not Perfect"

It was just a great ending to a great show. He thanked all his producers and manager and helpers for their work over the tour and thanked us all for coming and most of the people in the theatre were standing up and cheering. I hope he felt like it was a good send off.

Hannah and I stood outside waiting for a bit to see if he came out, we went to the stage door and they said that he was having a little party with everyone because it was the last show so we left to catch our trains home.

I made it safely back to Hornsby via train listening to "Sit" to end my night..

(very tired at this point)

Drove home from there. Called the emergency service though when I was greeted by some burning trees on my way home but it was a fantastic day and a great show and I have seen it four times, (Twice in two nights) and it was still great to watch.
Thanks for reading another badly written recap of what happened.

Foilly, your review is ace. I can only marvel at your memory of the detail of the show. By the time you get to my age you'll struggle to remember three of the songs, so to read this fabulous account is a thing of joy. Also good to have such helpful advice on train travel, albeit 12,000 miles from where I live! And what luck getting such a great seat, you lucky monkey. Thanks for going to the effort of posting this wonderous review. It felt a bit like being there, so reminded me of the UK gigs. Ta. x
