Ready For This?, Theatre Royal, Norwich, 14th September 2009 by Loki
It took me three straight days of nagging my dad to book tickets for the show when it came out, but I would not give up. So worth it! I've been waiting the whole year for it, so when the day finally came, I was impatiently pacing in circles in the car park waiting for my folks to get their bits and pieces out.
Now, I must admit, I was a little wary about taking my parents, as they're Church of England priests. Yes, both of them. They even came in their dog collars. I was so excited with that edge of worry that I pretty much downed my cider before the show...
However, as soon as we got in to our seats I was sitting right on the edge of mine, conversing with my mother about the empty chairs in front of us "who bloody well better not come in the middle, I'll kill them" (did I mention how psyched I was for the show?). However, as the lights completely blinded us as good ol' Tim started 'Ready for This' I think you could have heard a pin drop. (Luckily, afore mentioned late people got in just before, so I needn't have worried). I was grabbed like that.
Throughout the show, from 'Prejudice' within which I noticed my parents looking slightly alarmed at the start to laughing like hyenas along with the whole of the theatre at the twist; to 'Storm' and then some, he was on top form. Indian headdresses, babies and bears inclusive. Every now and then I glanced at my collared parental units and was absolutely delighted to see them creasing up. They very much appreciated the research Mr Minchin had done regarding "The Good Book" among others. In fact, I think they'd quite like to talk to him about it from what they were saying!
All in all, the most amazing show I have ever seen, and with the encore of "Hallelujah" I was just blown away. Enthusiastic standing ovation much? Fuck yea.

oh man! round of applause for you having the guts to bring them along! I live in a heavily christian family and I'm banned from playing tim outloud, let alone trying to bring them along! Im glad they enjoyed it. Again, bravo 10/10 for guts!
